For your first Modern Warfare 4 DMZ deployment, take the Free Loadout, choose one manageable Order, and extract with progress toward your next FOB unlock. This approach suits new players who want useful equipment without risking their reserves, though your Operator can still go MIA. You can explore MW4 Boosting while considering optional services for your gaming plans.

1 How Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Progression Works

DMZ progression connects your deployments to the Forward Operating Base, where you prepare Operators and manage equipment. DMZ Player Level is separate from multiplayer progression, so multiplayer activity won't replace earning DMZ XP.

The planned station sequence gives you clear targets: the 3D Printer at Level 2, the Vendor at Level 5, and the Gunsmith at Level 10. Extracted ingredients support crafting, while Recipes and Weapon Manuals open additional options.

Short deployments work well when you're learning because they reduce the time you spend exposed after securing something useful. Failed extraction still awards DMZ XP, but that doesn't replace bringing home the items your next upgrade needs.

2 Recommended Modern Warfare 4 DMZ Deployment Settings

Start with Free Roam and the Free Loadout unless your selected DMZ Order requires a Story Mission. These are preparation recommendations, not claims about an optimal combat setup.

First-Deployment Menu Choices

Setting
Recommended Option
Operators, Active Duty
Select an available Operator before deployment
DMZ Orders
Choose one manageable objective
Deploy
Free Roam for an ingredient-focused run
Ready Up
Equip Free Loadout, then inspect carried gear
Squad Fill
On for teammates, off for solo
Check Survival Kits before equipping supplies. Opening a kit transfers its contents to your Stash; carry what supports this objective and leave spare equipment at the FOB.

Choose Story Missions when their brief matches your Order. Ground is the free entry option for Free Roam and Dynamic Operations, not an extra requirement for Story Missions.

Squad Fill offers teammates, but coordination still needs attention. With it off, choose a shorter task and allow more time to withdraw because nobody else can watch your retreat.

3 Backpack, Loot, and Squad Responsibilities

Organize your equipment around survival, crafting, and extraction rather than filling every available slot. The following responsibilities are suggested player tasks, not fixed Operator classes.

Component
Recommended Responsibility
Priority
Active Duty Operator
Carry equipment needed for the selected task
Keep recovery reserves at the FOB
Medium Backpack
Expand capacity and protect eligible items
50 Synthetics and 5 Rigid Synthetics
Loot handling
Identify materials needed for current progression
Ingredients, Recipes, and relevant Weapon Manuals
Route and lookout duties
Monitor approaches, time, and extraction options
Keep an exit available
In a squad, agree who checks the route and who watches while someone searches. Solo players handle both tasks, so check your surroundings before opening an inventory.

Active Duty Operator and Survival Supplies

Your Operator needs enough ammunition and healing supplies to reach an exit. Free equipment lowers your gear commitment, but it doesn't remove the consequences of elimination.

Don't discard your last useful healing item for a component with no immediate purpose. Keeping yourself alive protects everything else you're carrying.

Medium Backpack and Secure Slots

The Basic Pack holds eight items, making the Medium Backpack a practical early crafting target. At DMZ Player Level 2, check its 3D Printer recipe for 50 Synthetics and 5 Rigid Synthetics.

Place eligible valuables inside Secure Slots; the protection isn't applied to your entire inventory. Vault Edition players should check their Deployment Kit for two Medium Backpacks before spending materials.

Crafting Materials and Unlock Items

Synthetics, Electronics, Chemicals, and Metals feed basic crafting resources through a dedicated resource pouch. Required 3D Printer Ingredients need to stay intact in your backpack and come home with you.

Extract Recipes to open crafting options and Weapon Manuals for corresponding DMZ Gunsmith access. Prioritize manuals for weapons you actually want, since multiplayer access doesn't automatically carry across.

4 How to Run Your First Ingredient Route

Build your first route around the objective and materials you need, not a distant landmark. A nearby search area is more useful than a long crossing that consumes your supplies.

• Check your DMZ Order before moving and confirm whether extraction is required. Choose nearby loot stops that fit the same direction.

• Consider Deadtown Exterior, Cheongun Village, or Imjin Farmland Exterior when they're nearby and marked Low Threat. Imjin's exposed fields still require careful movement between cover.

• At Level 2, highlight Medium Backpack in the 3D Printer and use Track/Untrack. Check your existing materials before choosing which ingredient to pursue.

• Use 3D Printer Ingredient Locations to guide your search for Rigid Synthetics. A suggested area is a search lead, not a promise about a particular container.

• Move toward extraction once you've secured useful objective progress or a needed ingredient. Leave sooner when healing, ammunition, or remaining time becomes restrictive.

5 Exfil, Hunt Squads, and Failed-Run Recovery

Start managing extraction risk before reaching the green smoke, because calling transport doesn't complete the run. You still need to survive the wait and board the helicopter.

• Inspect nearby cover and buildings before calling exfil. Choose another available site if a squad controls the approaches and you have time to relocate.

• Keep your inventory closed while transport is inbound. Watch likely approaches and preserve a path away from the site if conditions change.

• Monitor Hostiles Kill Count during optional fights. A full meter dispatches a Hunt Squad and makes you Marked for Death, so stop unnecessary engagements as it rises.

• Check radiation on the Tac-Map before taking another detour. Allow time for travel, resistance at the site, and the helicopter call.

• After an Operator goes MIA, inspect recovery options at the Operators station. Spend DMZ Cash to preserve a valued build, or use another available Operator while rebuilding funds.

6 Strengths and Limits of the Free Loadout Plan

Strengths
Weaknesses
Free Loadout limits personal equipment committed
Your Operator can still go MIA
One objective gives loot decisions a clear purpose
Short runs leave optional opportunities unfinished
Medium Backpack adds space and Secure Slots
Protection applies only to eligible slot contents
DMZ XP counts after failed extraction
Needed ingredients still require successful recovery
This plan suits players building their first dependable equipment reserve. It favors repeatable progress over lengthy fights and optional bosses.

Capacity is the early pressure point, so remove unrelated items before sacrificing survival supplies. A Small Backpack costs 25 Synthetics and 25 Metals, but spending those Synthetics delays the Medium Backpack target.

7 Final FOB Upgrade Checks Before Deployment

Before confirming deployment, inspect your selected Operator, Order requirements, carried supplies, and backpack placement. Check that crafted gear is equipped from the Stash or printed directly to your Operator, not merely owned.

Use short, purposeful deployments to reach the printer, build reserves, and prepare for the Vendor and Gunsmith unlocks. For an optional service comparison, review MW4 Boosting for sale and decide what fits your plans.
